A Visit to V&A for a Victorian Afternoon Tea

The V&A is one of my favourite museums in London and when I heard that they are serving a Victorian Afternoon Tea, I had to go and try it out. I have been to the V&A a few times already and they have cool and quirky exhibitions on all the time, however, even just a stroll through The Middle Age and The Renaissance will leave you pondering on the past.

I wanted to continue my Christmas cheer with this post as according to the article I read on V&A’s website, Victorians are responsible for shaping Christmas into the holiday we all know and love today. Apparently, Christmas wasn’t even celebrated at the beginning of the 19th century and gifting was more of a New Year activity. Thankfully Victorians made it become the biggest yearly celebration in Britain.

You could imagine my excitement when I heard that the Queen Victoria’s afternoon tea is being served at V&A. Since my mother is visiting, I thought a Victoria Afternoon tea would be the most appropriate thing to do for this time of the year. We started with a glass of Champagne taking in the gorgeous detailing present in V&A’ interiors. Food historian Natasha Marks is behind the afternoon tea menu which is served in the stunning Morris Room every Sunday 3-5pm. The menu is a selection of sweet and savoury delicacies from the Victorian era including Asparagus & parmesan tart, Indian ham sandwich, and Mrs. Beeton’s cucumber sandwich. Sweet options included favourite scones and jam, Victoria sandwich, Iced orange and Lemon & seed cake and other cute delicacies. You can see the full menu HERE. We opted for Earl Grey tea as it’s my favourite.

We walked around the museum afterward and even though this is not my first time visiting, I thoroughly enjoyed my afternoon. The V&A also has an Ice Skating rink, which makes the Christmas spirit evermore present.

Have you ever been to V&A? What are your thoughts?
