Barbican Centre: The Vulgar Fashion Redefined

Barbican Centre is one of my favourite places in London. Exhibitions shown at the Barbican Centre are always so amazing that I definitely recommend you pay it a visit. I was so excited to come here over the weekend and see their latest exhibition The Vulgar Fashion Redefined with an aim to reveal a notion of vulgarity in fashion and its excesses.

The goal is to figure out what makes something vulgar and why is our society so opposed to the word. The exhibition shows public and private collections of world’s most famous designers including Manolo Blahnik, Christian Dior, Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton, Karl Lagerfeld for Chloé and CHANEL, Alexander McQueen for Givenchy, Jeremy Scott for Moschino, Valter Van Beirendonck, Iris van Herpen, Pam Hogg, Stephen Jones, Christian Lacroix, Prada, Philip Treacy, Viktor & Rolf and Vivienne Westwood. It features over 120 pieces from the Renaissance through to the 21st century. Exhibiting dresses that made history, couture and ready to wear fashion including my favourite AW16 Chanel airlines show.

If you love the fashion and appreciate the craftsmanship, creative and the design, then you must visit the Barbican Centre to see the Vulgar. You will be able to see fashion designs through ages allowing you to experience and if not appreciate fashions past and present. The 18the century dresses with skirts wide as 2.5m. These really stood out for me and made me appreciate the levels of comfort that we are able to choose in our fashion.

The Vulgar exhibition at the Barbican Centre is run until 5th of February 2017. The exhibition is split across two floors with the lower floor showing the pieces split into Nymphs, The Fortunate Fall, Classic Copies, Once and For All, The New Exhibitionism, Too Much, Too Big, Ruling In and Ruling Out, Speaking of the Vulgar, The Shopping Centre, Creative Learning Workshop. And on the Upper floor you will be able to see clothes in Puritan Extreme Bodies, Exposed Bodies, Exaggerated Bodies, Too Popular, Common, The Vulgar Tongue, Impossible Ambition. Oes and Spangles, The New Baroque. You can access the full guide HERE.

We spend a good hour looking at exhibited clothes and appreciating the beauty that is fashion. We then popped to the Conservatory as its one of my favourite places in London when it’s not overly busy.
