East Meets West at Gong Shangri-La

Good morning guys,

I hope that you all had a lovely weekend.

Last week I attended the event at GÕNG, the bar at the Shangri-La hotel in the Shard where I was invited to a cocktail master class lead by the award-winning mixologist Shingo Gokan. I really love attending these events as they are always a great opportunity to meet other bloggers and PR professionals and just talk about the blogging world in general.

Shangri-La is a luxury 5-star hotel located between the 34th and 52nd floor of the iconic Shard. Alongside plush rooms which I will need to try to stay in at some point, it also has an amazing infinity pool with the most beautiful views of London. GÕNG bar is an Asian themed bar also offers breath-taking views of London, especially Tower Bridge and the City, but you can see further than that as the London Skyline beautifully stretches in front of your eyes.

Shingo Gokan did an amazing job making cocktails for us. He is well known all over the world for being a great mixologist and a somewhat an ice expert as apparently he only uses ice that has specifically produced on-site for him which he then carves in his own way as the ice has a big impact on how the cocktail tastes.

We started the evening with “East of the Sun” – Thailand based on the Bombay Saphire East, cucumber, pineapple, lemongrass and Thai Basil needless to say that it was very refreshing and delicious.

The next was “Porco Rosso” which Shingo got inspiration for when he was in Italy and it’s based on Bacardi Superior, tomato, raspberry, lemon and Parmigiano-Reggiano.

Followed by “Morenita” originating from Mexico containing Mysterious Coyote Mexcal, coconut, cold brew coffee, vanilla salt, brown sugar and chocolate on the side. I think this was one of those cocktails that you can only manage one before you start feeling rather marry.

Next we had “Northland” originating from Hokkaido and it based on Gray Goode vodka, Melon, Gyokuro tea, condensed milk, cardamom and Shiso which I thought it was one of my favourites as I’m a sucker for anything with Melon.

Last but not least “Smoke gets in your eyes” – New York based on Bourbon, Barolo chinato, Oloroso sherry, Benedictine, bitters and smoke which I thought it was nice and unusual however slightly strong for my liking.

All in all the experience was great and GÕNG bar is really a perfect location for a date or Friday evening cocktails with your favourite girlfriends but don’t forget to dress up. The bar operates no booking policy so try to get there earlier to be able to get in.

I hope you enjoyed this post and have a good week everyone.
