The Jones Family Project

Hello everyone,

Hope you guys had a lovely weekend.

I’m so excited to share with you Friday night’s dinner, I went to the amazing Jones Family Project in Shoreditch.

Located on 78 Great Eastern Street, this venue is somewhat different to your standard Great Eastern eatery – and trust me there are quite a few of these places opening and closing down in the past couple of your years. The venue is just opposite the Hoxton Hotel which I went to last year for my birthday (click HERE for the post) and didn’t enjoy this anywhere near as much. Therefore, I’m happy to say that I much preferred The Jones Family Project and being the crazy steak lady that I am, I am pretty fussy when it comes to my steak.

The Jones Family Project is different in several ways from your standard restaurant. Upstairs is a rather chilled café like atmosphere that switches into a bar later in the evening, even the bar literally turns from day to night; the coffee cups literally rotate around and switch to wine bottles and I found it rather fascinating that such a simple idea can be so functional. There are so many quirky corners in this place and I took as many pictures as possible to show you guys the feel of it. Upstairs is great for an after work drink or even to meet your friends before you hit one of the Shoreditch clubs.

Downstairs is another story, it’s a massive dining room accompanied by quite a spacious bar with a large standing table decorated with a tree, a few booths and a large sofa corner. It was nice to have a drink at the bar before we went to our table and had dinner.

The restaurant area consisted of two sections, one section was just next to the bar surrounded by glass and it seemed a little more exclusive than the other section which was a red plush chairs and tables for either 2 or 4 across the restaurant with a larger group of seating booths in the corners.

Dim lights across the restaurant make The Jones Family Project a perfect spot for a date or a family occasion.

The toilets were quirky too with this gorgeous sign that I took a photo of in the mirror. If you read my Roka post then you know how I’m obsessed with Aesop hand wash and moisturisers and you know that a place is pretty cool if they have these in their bathrooms. Apologies for the abundance of photos but I wanted to show you guys so you can check it out for yourselves.

The food was amazing. I love restaurants that pride themselves in sourcing food and even their drinks locally and I’m all up for supporting local communities. I started my meal with an oh so delicious Steak Tartare and Siobhan had Tomato Cheese Risotto Cakes which I tried and thought were also delicious.

For mains, we both opted for medium rare Sirloins accompanied with Truffle Potato Dauphinoise and a mixed leaf salad. I really don’t want to brag about how amazing the food was and I think the next time you are in Shoreditch, you have to try this place. We finished off our meal with an Eton Mess Semifreddo which had Langley’s No 8 gin covered strawberries, strawberry sauce and crushed meringue, we shared this as we were quite full from our mains and starters and it was the perfect end to our meal.

All in all, I definitely recommend The Jones Family Project, not only for dinner but for some drinks upstairs; it’s also a great working space during the day for people like me who live with their laptops.

I hope you like the pictures and as always please share your comments below.
