The Scotch Whisky Experience Edinburgh

You can’t visit City of Edinburgh without going on the Scotch whisky experience tour. The tour includes the visit to the world’s largest collection of Scotch Whisky containing almost 4000 bottles.

We visited around midday, little early to drink I know! Worry not as the purpose of the Scotch whisky experience is not to get drunk but experience one of the many cool things that Edinburgh has to offer. We opted for a Silver Tour package that included a whisky barrel ride through the production of Scotch whisky and introduction to the different aromas. It also included dram of Scotch whisky (Irn Bru for under 18s), as well as viewing of the World’s largest collection of Scotch whisky, as well as learning how to taste the gold liquid. We got to take the tasting glass home which helps if you would like to demonstrate your learnings from the tasting session to your friends and family. Our tour guide mentioned that when you taste the whisky, it feels like a hug from the inside, however, some may beg to differ. All in all, it was really cool to learn what goes into the production process and to end the tour with a taste of a whisky of your choice.

The Scotch whisky experience tour lasted just under an hour, however, we popped down to Amber restaurant for some lunch. Amber serves Scottish cuisine and we thought what better way to end our Scotch whisky experience that with a hearty Scottish meal. I must admit as much as I wanted to go for Haggis but I simply couldn’t bear the thought of it, even though I’m sure its super yummy. Instead, I opted for the Steamed Shetland mussels to start with where Emily chose roast vegetable and chickpea cake with cranberry chutney, garlic and rosemary toast. For my main, I chose Orkney rib eye steak with roast beetroot and carrot, dauphinoise potato and rosemary jus and Em opted for Lamb stovies which is a traditional Scottish dish of slow braised lamb, onions and potatoes.

It was quite cold in Edinburgh our hearty meal required a nice wash down with a Hot Toddy which helps not only digestion but also it helps keep you warm. The food was quite delicious and we really enjoyed the Scottish delicacies.

The Scotch whisky experience was such a cool thing to do on a rainy/windy afternoon in Edinburgh and I really recommend you guys give it a go if you find yourself in this gorgeous city.

I’m not a fan of whisky so when I visited Edinburgh I skipped that tour. I must say, that place looks amazing! x

  2. I went to this Whisky experience in Edinburg a couple of years ago. I remember, they had a test. you had to choose a whisky that suits your personality the best. Mine ended up being a “brutal man” personality haha xxx
