Having lived in East London for over ten years, I have seen the area change and become one of the coolest areas to hang out in London. The vibrant cafe and restaurant culture make you want to explore the neighbourhood for all the hidden nooks. I have my local spots, as well as my weekend routine, usually consists of strolling Broadway food market on Saturday, followed by the flower market on Sundays. I also love going to the farmers market in Victoria Park on Sundays.
We are so lucky to have so much to do here, and the latest addition to my neighbourhood is the quirky and plant-rich Mama Shelter. I couldn’t resist the dinner in what seemed to be the most romantic candlelit restaurant with glass ceilings so you can even hear the raindrops.
Mama Shelter has a huge lounge area made for freelances alike and decorated with an abundance of plants, colourful cushions. The fireplace will make it my weekly hangout for work. The hotel above is an excellent place to base yourself if you are looking to explore the area better.
We treated ourselves to a big meal, and I opted for a steak because I never bye red meat anymore, so it’s nice to treat myself occasionally. My sister had a seabass, and we share mac and cheese as well as fries. Not to mention our starters where I had tuna carpaccio to start with and truffle and mushroom pizza. The food came out so quickly and enjoyed it.
I would say its probably perfect for a romantic date so perhaps go there on your second or third date. The setting is so lovely and relaxing that you will want to stay there for hours, especially if you visit on a rainy evening.
Enjoy the rest of your week.
