Since I have friends and family in Vienna, it wasn’t that difficult to find a good location to celebrate my birthday. I decided to book us in for an earlier dinner and drinks at Motto Vienna, a bar and restaurants that seemed exactly what I was looking for.
Motto restaurant, located on Schönbrunner Straße Vienna, was apparently one of the first gay clubs in the 70’s and has since become somewhat of a celebrity hotspot. This makes it one of the ultimate hangout places amongst the trendy crowds of Vienna. The exterior or should I say large black metal door with the logo above doesn’t promise much, however, as soon as you enter there is an opulently designed restaurant offering a sophisticated dining space that almost feels industrial with its bare walls, however, rich green velvet benches and dark wood tables create quite an edgy dining area. It was really cool and just the way I like it.
Motto Vienna apart from its lush setting offers a great selection of internationally inspired dishes including beef and avocado tartrate and beef carpaccio and, of course, my favourite steak, but this wasn’t just a steak, this actually was a steak covered in chocolate chili sauce, I mean how could I resist my 2 favourite foods served as one.
We had quite a bit of food before moving into the bar area which gets quite busy after 9 pm so booking a table is a must unless you like standing. Motto Vienna is open until 4 pm and food served well after midnight. We have been told that deep fried Emmental cheese goes down well with late night drinkers as it helps with the lessening the next day’s hangover.
But it wasn’t just the food and restaurant interiors that made the night, it really was the atmosphere and good looking waiters who made sure that we didn’t lack anything the entire evening. Although Motto is not the most pocket-friendly location in Vienna, it will definitely ensure the best night. The food was delicious, service and atmosphere even better; music was on point and never too loud to talk, however, the only thing I massively disliked is the smoking inside which is still quite common in Vienna. I hear that this will soon change and when it does Motto will defiantly be my number one hangout spot when in Vienna.
Have a good week everyone.
