Algarve in Portugal has been one of those places I wanted to visit for so long but never really found the right moment to do so. When the opportunity presented itself to take a few days break in a beautiful Macdonald Monchique Resort and Spa in the Algarve, I jumped with joy instantly booking my flights.
Macdoland Monchique is a 5-star spa resort positioned against the heels of the Monchique Mountain in Algarve making the most serene location for a break. It provides a perfect location for everyone who is looking to escape a hustle and bustle of a city life and take a few days off in nature. The location of the hotel is so perfect as it allows its guests to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the nearby mountain as well as the beach, which is less than 30 mins away by car. In the mid-season, the hotel provides a shuttle bus which takes their guests to the beach. Since we visited out of the season, we had to book a taxi but it was entirely worth it as Algarve is so beautiful and I can’t wait to share more photos from the places we visited during our stay. As soon as we arrived, the friendliest reception staff showed us around the reception area as well as showing us around the resort which consists of 3 buildings.
Our room or an apartment, I should say, was located on the second level and close to all the spa and bars and restaurants. The room had the gorgeous view and from our balcony, we could see the sea line of a coastal town Portimao. I must admit that all the time spent in the room, was pretty much in bed as it was large and comfortable. Since it was the low season, we really took this opportunity to rest and fully recharge our batteries. The hotel arranged so many activities for us to do and see including the working out with the trainer in their gym and multiple massages in their spa. Alongside the activities in the hotel, we also went for a hike to the Monchique Mountain and a day exploring sea caves of the nearby fisherman town Alvor, which in my opinion is a true Algarve gem and a must visit especially if you are a sunset lover. I will be sharing more in the coming days 🙂
Food wise, we were spoiled for choice especially as the Macdonald has 3 restaurants and the most friendly and attentive staff. We literally ate our weight in food and our favorite was the Mon Chic restaurant where we enjoyed everything from Oysters to Veal and their chef’s infamous fine dining menu. They also have a massive terrace which is summer offers the most spectacular views both of the sea and the mountain, not to mention the sunset. All of the food is locally sourced and prepared to the highest standard. We also got to enjoy their roast served on Sundays which is quite different to the English Sunday Roast but nonetheless as delicious.
There is also a beautiful large spa with a pool that I will share another post about, hopefully, next week, if not this. Both indoor and outdoor pool were located on the spa floor however, it was little chilly for the outdoor pool so I spent most of my time in the indoor one.
All in all, Macdonald Monchique is a luxurious treat that everyone should do once, especially as it represents the Algarve region of Portugal so well. As always I went little cray with photos so I do hope you like this post.
