I just returned from Rome where I spent gorgeous 4 days with my best friend in the world. We enjoyed our time together by exploring the city, dining in amazing restaurants and drinking delicious Italian wine. I was so happy when I stumbled upon Primo al Pigneto which is one of those restaurants that makes you feel like you are not a tourist in Rome which in my opinion is always a plus when you travel. I obviously had to share our meal with you guys so I hope you like my pictures.
Piazza di Spagna Rome will make you feel spoiled for choice of places to eat in however, it’s just that feeling that you get of being a complete tourist when having your meal in one of the restaurants in such central locations. Pigneto, on the other hand, is an area in Rome that it’s quite opposite of Piazza di Spagna and all the other touristy locations we visited.
Pigneto is an artsy neighborhood of Rome packed with discerning wine bars with low lighting, restaurants that serve real and homemade Roman food, cobbled streets, and walls covered with artsy murals. We booked our dinner for 8pm, it was such a warm evening that we gulped 2 glasses of white wine in no time. Primo’s terrace was so beautiful with the white tables and chairs and fairly like tea lights, we were so happy to be there on our first evening that we decided to go all in and treat ourselves to Primo’s Summer Tasting Menu.
The head chef Marco Gallotta and the restaurant manager Stefano welcomed us with a squid and avocado salad, bread and dips to share. The main courses consisted of fish, meat and pasta and food was so delicious that we felt overly indulged. I’m making a conscious effort to exclude gluten from my diet altogether and all you see in the pictures below is pretty much gluten free including pasta. I was actually amazed at the amount of gluten and dairy free options available in almost every restaurant in Rome.
If you ever find yourself in Rome then I highly recommend you visit Primo al Pigneto, not only for it’s delicious too but for the setting as well. You will get a chance to meet the locals and experience Rome in its full beauty and not only from the traveler’s perspective but from the local too.
I hope you liked this review and there are quite a few more posts on Rome to come so stay tuned.
Have a lovely rest of the week!

It is always nice to read blogger-friend’s articles, especially when they speak about your own country (Italy in this case).

These photos are stunning Tania! I agree with you, I love going to places that make me feel like a local rather than a tourist. I feel like that is how you really get to experience a city authentically. Primo al Pigneto’s food looks unbelievably delicious! I can’t decide which course I think looks the most amazing…I think I’ll go with the dessert. By the way as someone who is gluten and dairy free I am seriously impressed you managed to mostly stay away from it while in Rome. I never thought it possible!
I see lots of people getting out of taxis, bobbing straight into the restaurant and getting straight back into a taxi when they leave – which is a shame! Primo al Pigneto is amazing (great pics) but you should definitely have a stroll round Pigneto for a cocktail at Da Mezzo or a beer at Birstro’ first, there’s lots of other places to discover but I won’t spoil the fun of finding them 😉
love this! hope you’re having an amazing day 🙂
