I just got back to London after a wonderful 10 days in Mallorca and I feel refreshed and ready to welcome the Christmas period which will soon be upon us. One of the best things about holidaying on a beautiful island such as Mallorca is the fresh fish supply and abundance of fish restaurants. Peix Vermell Palma was recommended to me by a friend who is a frequent visitor to Mallorca who praised both their service and their food. I thought booking us in there for an evening would make a perfect blog post so there we went after a full day of exploring Palma.
Peix Vermell Palma is located on Montenegro street which belongs to the Sa Lloja district, which is famous for its selection of beautiful bars and restaurants, so much so that choosing just one can be rather a difficult task. Worry not I have you covered.
After you turn onto Montenegro street which is a small alley (quite standard for Palma), Peix Vermell Palma is located just a few minutes walk away. We walked in and were greeted immediately by a friendly waitress who sat us down with an offer of a drink of water. We were booked in for 7pm which is usually quite early for the Spanish culture, but considering we were quite tired after walking the whole day we decided we didn’t want to stay out too late. The restaurant filled out as we were finishing our mains.
Peix Vermell Palma has such a cute setting with a lot of nautical details which is not surprising since fish is what they specialize in. Bread is free in pretty much every place in Mallorca, but this one came with the tastiest tomato sauce and olives; typical of Majorcan cuisine.
I opted for the grilled octopus with their homemade mayonnaise and it was literally one of the best octopus dishes I have had in a while. It was quite a large portion too, whereas Siobhan opted for a grilled vegetable dish containing potatoes, aubergine, courgette, peppers, asparagus and cherry tomatoes.
My main dish was spectacular, sea bass in a salt crust, which our waiter prepared for me, I filmed a little video of this as well. He made sure that all the bones were out and I was left with several fillets which were so delicious. I had some Spinach a la Majorcan style as a side which was a great addition to my meal. Siobhan opted for a more meaty option of beef filet with potatoes. We drank Tamaral, Verdejo 2014 which is their house white, but it was the perfect choice to pair with my fish.
We were looked after so well the entire evening, the restaurant manager Mihail was so lovely and he really ensured that our visit to Peix Vermell Palma was unforgettable. If you are going to Mallorca, you must check this restaurant out, as I’m sure you will love it as much as we did.
Have a good week everyone.
